hello! from the land of home! our new home!

I came back to schenectady this weekend knowing that I have my third organic chemistry test on tuesday, but know that if i did come home I would study a lot and get way more sleep. the studying part worked out the sleep part not really. See the problem is that we moved! no more renting, we are owning, or at least on our way to owning a new house! We moved right down the street from my grandmother and my uncle so it is a really nice neighborhood. and a pretty nice house too.

the moving part means that my room is boxes and my bed sans mattress. my brother got not only my dresser but also my mattress in the move since I don't really spend all that much time here anymore. however, the real reason i didn't get a lot of sleep last night is actually because we live with my room facing a cemetery. yeah i know right? i'm the best girl for this room hands down. (I'm just waiting for the zombie attack.)

Other then that I love the house except for the part where i'm really disoriented. It's very strange coming home to a completely different living space, and one that you don't have any memories in. i sort of feel robbed. but then again we never really had one house growing up. I had four.

sarah (my roommate) and i have plans to decorate our room. it should be AWESOME! i'll take pictures and post them as soon as we do it. promise.

the semester is going great. chem is fun, i love the labs. i dropped german- it just wasn't working and I didn't feel like i was getting anything out of it. history of science is as ever wonderful, thanks to Skiff. and physics is well, physics. I really like the class and professor but it just isn't working out the way i had hoped. i must continue in order to moderate! oh dear. that's next semester already.

thankfully thanksgiving (haha) is just around the corner. i am going with eli back to brooklyn and then off to massachusetts for a few days with his family. and i mean like 20 people. i'm gonna have a freak out i know it. heart attack here i come. but it should be fun. and nerve wracking.

i'm so excited for real food!!! kline is killing me! :(

i really am very disappointed that i am neglecting this blog so much. i know i shouldn't be so sad about that because it just means that I am doing all my work. (i really am.) I really enjoyed blogging so much this summer. it was a great way to find things but also a great way to just let my mind mush out. i need that again. i've been knitting my swap partner (for the favorite color swap) like a crazy fool this weekend. 16 episodes of the west wing were watched. holy crap. i really want to start screening the west wing on wednesdays soon.

on an AWESOME note. i am going to be starting research this friday with my advisor/organic chemistry professor! I'm so excited to get started!!! (really though i've been freaking out about it.)

i have a physics lab to finish and a german test to start studying for(it's tomorrow.) YEAH. so on top of the ball.

it's on it's way love.

week one- finished. organic and history of science ended up being awesome both tuesday and thursday. Peter Skiff my HoS professor loves talking about how he's been teaching this course for 40(!) years and how he had to break Leon Botstein in when he first arrived at Bard. My teachers are crazy. Orgo looks like its going to be fun. I have three and a half hour long labs so some crazy explosions are sure to happen sometime.

I haven't gotten a ton of work this week but I'm sure I will soon. I've just been getting ahead in what I can do so that when test time comes I can somewhat not freak out.

so summer decided to depart and bestow upon us both September and FALL! yay! this means dresses and skirts with tights, brightly colored leggings, and sweaters. yummm. I only had one class this morning so since my walking time would be very limited I decided to try out my "Mad Men" dress. My friends loved it. I got funny looks from others but the best was when one of my good guys friends (who acts like a little kid) said I looked pretty! He's adorable and this made my day.

being back at Bard is great! I love being able to see all my friends(even if they and eli live on the other side of campus) and faces that are all familiar to me. well except the new freshmen. they are quite loud. My room is huge, my roommate awesome, and the sun coming through the windows in the morning is the best thing i could ever ask for. we have a bench in our room. that we can lay on. My room is wonderful. I'll post pictures when it has a little more character. I have a few things planned that should pimp it out nicely.
So! Some exciting news! i won a giveaway(my first) from Couture Carrie!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!! I "freaked out" when I found out. i won a $75 voucher to an amazing etsy shop called Flora Bond. I plan on getting this amazing necklace. It should do some good for my fall outfits. Really check out the shop the necklaces are beautiful.

Today's Treasures will start up again soon. I must get acclimated to my classes and stuffs first. the classes I LOVE! Physics with a german. German with a german, who enjoys making fun of me. History of Science and Organic Chemistry tomorrow. My schedule is like heaven(for me of course.)

BREAKING NEWS.

At about 10 o'clock this evening there was a shooting right outside my house! We heard the three pops go off and ran to the window to see what was going on. A car was outside our house with people getting in quickly. They drove up the street and said they were going to the hospital. Apparently a man they were with was shot! I'm pretty sure this was one of our neighbors.

The car driving by, doing the shooting drove away and we did not see it. This was right outside my house! My mum and I were freaking out and we called 911 right away. Then the police came and blocked off the street and all the other neighbors decided to come out of their houses. CBS6 news is reporting that "a 35 year old male victim was shot 3 times between 239 and 241 Park Place." The man was taken to the hospital where apparently his injuries are not life-threatening. Great so can the heart attack I just had from this be treated? Many interviews, pictures and news camera footage later the police are gone, and the nosy neighbors are back asleep inside their houses.

We really need to move out. like now. Oh the Schenectady ghetto. If our house had been hit or someone in our house had been hit mum would probably have FREAKED OUT. rightly so. The best part? Apparently the house next door(where some of these people live) has been 'under watch.' Oh well thanks for telling us AFTER someone got shot. oi vey.

sorry for the absence yesterday. I am working my way through all of my stuff in order to figure out what I absolutely NEED to bring back to school with me. This seems like it would be relatively easy but no, because i had not even unpacked my boxes from last semester. fun. However I am working my way through swiftly. Tonight I'm sorting through my yarn box seeing what I really am going to use at school. I leave for school this saturday so if I am absent a few days here or there it is because i am getting back into the swing of things.

i had so much fun at the pool today. i know, first time all summer. there was a tall chair in the water, backflips, questions asked, and misplaced bathing suits. a wonderful day. people's days are numbered here. they are slowly starting to trickle into the college world, some for the first time other to go back to people they haven't seen in quite some time. tomorrow is the last day for a majority of the kids. we are celebrating with tie-dye. maybe i'll take pictures of the pool tomorrow since i haven't ever before... also my uniform for the past three months.

so i had a stroke of genius last night while talking to eli on the phone. instead of spending X amount of dollars on trying to make a giant fuzzy suit for my halloween costume, why not use some things i already have and be something else instead. So at about one in the morning i proceeded to try on what is the preliminary stages of my halloween costume for the year 2009.

i am green lantern.

all i have to do is buy some black and white felt so i can make the green lantern emblem look better. but then i have to figure out a way to attach it to my leotard with out sewing/anything that will hurt it. or maybe i'll just stick with paper. either way i definitely think i have been sucked into the whole comic book whirlpool. the next supergirl comes out tomorrow and so does the 1st batgirl! yay! so excited.

of what i am being for halloween this year.

oh what a long weekend away from work will do for you. wonders. i arrived back at work today only to hear megan and taylor screaming at each other. i was across the lake and i could hear it. oh schenectady pool, how i love you.

my last weekend in brooklyn before we head back to school. sad sad day. i hope i get to visit again.

i decided to try wearing my contacts today to see if they would be all right for me to wear to brooklyn. i haven't worn them since before school ended so i didn't know how all right they would be. turns out they're great! i'm really terribly excited to visit eli.

my mum surprised me with a container of colored paperclips so i made another ring. this time it was a sun and i think it turned out pretty good. it was kind of hard to finagle all the pieces together but i got it to work in the end. i think i am going to make a bunch of these rings and then sell them at the craft fair at my school when it comes around. i've been thinking about printing shirts too. ones that i like so if they don't get sold i can always wear them myself.

i also received another one of my books for school today. so far the count is 3/8 and i still haven't even purchased my german textbooks (probably like 50-75 dollars on amazon total.) there really is no reason these books should be this expensive!

long day at work. been watching lots of west wing lately. i find it calming after a long day in the sun. brooklyn in two days. i get there in the afternoon on friday and then hopefully i will be hanging out with stella until eli gets off work. on monday before i leave i get to hang out with alexa because eli has work again. boo. but at least i get to see him again before i go back to school. (or maybe he will visit me again.) probably not, wishful thinking.

two days of not going to work do wonders for me. i am so terribly happy being able to doddle around, go to the library, CVS, the bookstore, or play with my baby brother in the back yard and maybe make a flower ring or two. and since my mum gave me back my camera i took pictures of some of the clothes i got from goodwill.

it was quite warm today. which meant there were lots of people at the pool. joy. but on a plus side i got my mum to bring me to goodwill so i could get clothes! yay! i ended up getting two dresses(one of which is very madmen-esque) three shirts (one was J Crew for 5 bucks!) and a sweater. it all only cost me like 40 bucks, a little splurge yes but i felt it was necessary given i had to use another 60 to buy my textbooks for school. and i still have two more to buy for german. meh..... i need a better paying job. no pics of the clothes today because mum took my camera with her to her friends camp(along with connor, nathaniel, and jim.) A HOUSE TO MYSELF! YAY!!!

part II-rain day delay

since work was canceled today i decided to take a small adventure downtown in hopes of finding some new clothing. i stopped by this cute new vintage shop and found a copper spoon ring for only $5! i had been looking on etsy for one so i am glad i could find one i didn't have to pay shipping for.

then i continued on to the closest second hand store to my house. they had so much great stuff!i especially love the bright pink heels (they remind me so much of a senior that graduated from school this year) and the heart earrings on the bottom.

4 pairs of shoes= $6

3 pairs of earrings= $4

overall no clothing purchased(there's always tomorrow at goodwill) but lots of great finds that i WILL be wearing at school this fall. so finally i have resurrected "today's outfit". i was definitely inspired by the playground. i walked by then turned around and started snapping pictures. i think people were a little weirded out because i was hopping round all over the place. for a while.

i have become addicted to sudoku again. i discovered my sudoku books after i finished cleaning my room before eli got here last weekend. then this week while sitting and waiting to go on chair at the pool i've been working on my skills. sad to say they are severely lacking. i've only been able to complete one difficult puzzle. they used to be so easy....

i've started watching the tv show Mad Men and i LOVE it. so then introduced by elsie yet again, i made myself and like four other people including eli using madmenyourself.comi suggest you go. it is awesome.

i never thought this blog would have continued as long as it has. looking back i have been through a lot in the past two years. so many landmarks.

+graduated from highschool
+broke up with my boyfriend of 1.5 years
+went to a school i never really considered and i love it
+4 people i have known died
+adoption and loss of a fish
+i got really sick but (thankfully) got over it
+got closer to some old friends and made new amazing friends who i will never forget
+found someone i really love and think is awesome beyond all belief
+rediscovered the child in me

i am so happy with the way this blog has turned. i love that i have so many things together at once. it is like a warehouse for all my thoughts and discoveries that i want to look back on now. and since people don't really read it i still feel free to be a little more personal then other people's blogs.

over the next year i hope to get some more notice of my blog maybe start focusing on something. not sure yet. i just hope it doesn't lose it's integrity. i also hope i can expand this to incorporate my college interests as well. so without further ado i now present the first of something i am going to try.

eli visited. i found out that schenectady new york could be somewhat entertaining.

then we headed to the beach.

not. it was actually the new york state museum but it was very bright on the plaza afterward and the large fountains make it seem a lot brighter then it actually is. we also went to a comic book store very near my house which i didn't even know existed and i got to see eli be adorable. then we came home and he played with nathaniel for a bit. he is so great with my brother. and nathaniel is hilarious around eli.

someone reading this blog is probably going to think i am a little bipolar but really i am not. i just had a really bad week at work. i've been teaching red cross swimming lessons at the pool and it's been great but the rest of the day end up going terribly because i end up sitting at the pool the whole day until my next shift.

it's been a very long week. but the weekend (extra long because i took saturday and sunday off and i already have mondays off are going to be great! ELI is arriving in the dear little (not so little) city of schenectady, ny in about 3 hours. so to get me a little more hyped up here are a few things that made my week better and will hopefully may your weekend just the same.

Dear friends,
Edward Fletcher, age 1, beloved fishy friend died today from sickness. While his death was not sudden it was difficult to watch the steady decay of such a helpless creature. Upon resuming studies at Bard College, a burial will take place on campus with the date, location, and time to be determined. Please keep him in your minds this weekend and remember him for the loyal friend he was.

I don't think that I ever posted on here about my fish. He was a betta fish that i got my first semester at college and i believe he was one of the reasons i survived that first semester. he was always very friendly in the room especially after i got him a bigger bowl. he loved swimming around and tapping on the glass to tell me that he was hungry. he was my first real pet that i had to take care of by myself so i had a very special attachment to this animal. it's very strange watching something you love die, certainly something i wish will not happen very often.

and i never took a picture of him.

another rained out day. then i rode back home on my bike and was once again soaked by the time i locked up my bike. it's really frustrating having a job but not being able to get any hours in. i think i might rather be in brooklyn doing nothing. not to mention the fact that i just wouldn't be in schenectady. can't wait for that day. but for now that's only a dream.

finished my present for eli. i love it i sure hope he does. i plan on attacking the scanner to get some decent pictures of this beauty. i am terribly proud of it. i t felt great to be so energized about a creative project again. i hadn't felt that way since i did a piece for the senior art show. i was very inspired by all the blog hunting i have been doing as of late. the blog list on the right hand side has been growing steadily since i haven't had much to do. such a rush of creativity!!! <3

sew i do is having a giveaway of these bags. They are wonderfully colorful and if i was competent at sewing i would make myself one in an instant!

on another note, the whole not being able to go to brooklyn thing was solved! eli bought me a ticket and i am getting paid thursday so i will buy him food whilst there visiting. i wonder if i can call it visiting anymore. i mean yes but it is becoming sort of habit at this point. we got "rained out" but by the time we had left it was swimmable again. (i think i made that word up). Can't wait to get to brooklyn tomorrow! This will be the last time I get to see Eli for a while. :( I start work next Friday. Then I work three full days that weekend! What a better way to kick off my summer job! <3

oh jeese. almost just died. i was reading this post and i just about had a heart attack until i realized that it was next week. not when i am there. This is the second time i have missed Ysolda being in New York. I have been religiously reading her blog for at least a year. She is wonderful and she is such a talented knitter!

In other news. I have been kicking butt at Pokemon blue. I resurrected it when i was cleaning my room. room still not done but I do have three badges already! YEAH! I can't believe I never actually played this game when i was younger. I thought it was so stupid. Guess i was more of a girl then I thought. Now it's so relaxing. directly after coming home from brooklyn (<3) i went to the dave matthews concert. well not directly but close enough. Friday and Saturday night were two of the best nights i've had in a long while (i'm thinking back to mid-Spring Semester '09). Megan and I went early to tailgate. Dylan Simms was there too. We met up with a few friends, people I haven't seen in quite some time.

We all proceeded to go inside, where a man who looked like his boxers had been attacked by a bumble bee fell up the hill very nearly on top of us and another fell down and proceeded to throw up quite close to where we stood. ew. but then dave started playing and it was wonderful. I could actually see fairly well the whole time. The lawn at SPAC really is pretty fair for everyone since it is the perfect slope as long as you don't have a very tall man standing in front of you.

overall pretyy great two nights. the second night. oh man. it was great. new stuff plus a few surprises. plus we saved $10 dollars (i say we i mean me) by parking in the SPAC parking lots. then i proceeded to have the great idea to sit in the trunk and put the seats down. "Hey megan why are you still sitting up there?" she came and joined me very shortly after that.

so basically, DMB = love. every year he pleases me. plus sometimes i have a real blast! can't wait for next year!

on another note. i have entered the long process of cleaning my room. after two days i can see some of my floor, i rearranged yet again and my walls are completely bear which provides a slight "echo." i am trying to convince my mum of letting me get this off-white (towards blue) paint. she insists that I paint it white. but i protest! every other room except the kitchen is painted a different color. i even offered to pay for the paint myself. i cannot live in a white room. i have too much i want to do with it to have it be white. i'll see if i can work her into it......for now goodnight. i want to start waking up earlier. the mornings can be so pretty.

left kentucky VERY red. went to brooklyn less red, came back peeling but tan. i had a great time over the past two days. i really needed to see Eli, it was very refreshing. i had the best bagel i have ever had from La Bagel. I hung out with a few of Eli's friends including two Jacks but no Felies (Felix plural). I letterboxed in Prospect Park. Eli found a box too! but we could not find the Maryland Monument for the life of us. (i now know where it is after googling). After a fun few days in Brooklyn I got to see Alexa darling today and we walked up and down 34th Street in Manhattan shopping. We are both addicted to Forever 21. We need rehab bad. But after a three hour bus ride back from the city (I ride Megabus, they have REALLY cheap tickets if you get them early enough) I am tired and frustrated and have to deal with all my stuff in the morning. yay. then in the afternoon I get to see DAVE MATTHEWS BAND! friday and saturday. YAY!

after that long week it is BACK to brooklyn for me! where we plan on walking across the brooklyn bridge, meeting up with a family friend Shane and hopefully meeting more of Eli's friends!

we are no longer going to the beach. we are now headed to kentucky and we leave tomorrow! we are going to visit Susie's sister Sandy in Elizabethtown and then I will be flying home on Monday. so i decided to use my extra time before the Dave Matthews Concert next weekend to plan a small trip to Brooklyn! YAY! i am terribly excited to see this boy again....

and then i get to see him again the very next weekend for longer! This is a super packed summer so far!

Dave Matthews Band released their new album on Tuesday. I suggest you go buy it and listen to it a lot. It's all I've been listening to the last two days. i loooooove it! and it's making me even more pumped for the shows!

I have been going letterboxing crazy the past two days. 11 in 2 days. if you have no idea what I am talking about go here or here and explore and then become addicted. My dad and I had some father daughter time before I leave. I had a lot of fun. even in the rain. the best place we visited was Vulcan Park. i only wish spock had been there....<3 sorry for the really crappy light. like i said, it rained.

i don't know if i'll be able to post this weekend since i'll be in transit, so have a great weekend if i don't!!!
